Endoscopy
Endoscopy is a procedure that allows your surgeon to examine the inside lining of the oesophagus, stomach, duodenum, small intestine and large intestine.
Gastroscopy
While under sedation, a telescopic camera is passed through the mouth to visualize the upper GI tract. This allows your surgeon to diagnose various problems including:
- Heartburn / reflux
- Bleeding
- Stomach ulcers
- Duodenal ulcers
- Nausea
- Abdominal pain
- Difficulty in swallowing
- Painful swallowing
- Tumours
The procedure is done as a day case and usually takes between 5 to 15 minutes.
Colonoscopy
While under sedation, a telescopic camera is passed through the anus to visualize the lower GI tract. This allows your surgeon to diagnose the cause and signs of many symptoms such as:
- Diarrhoea
- Constipation
- Faecal occult blood (FOB) positive test
- Fresh bleeding in stools
- Polyps
- Tumours
- Lower abdominal pain
- Anaemia
- Inflammation of the colon (Colitis)
- Crohn’s disease
Patients need to take “bowel prep” a laxative that clears out your colon prior to the procedure. This starts the day before along with diet modification. A colonoscopy can take between 20 to 40 minutes. The procedure is also done as a day case.
Dr Ghosh will provide you with a detailed information booklet explaining the procedure. If you are having a colonoscopy, you will be able to purchase the bowel prep from the rooms or chemist.
